Helen Spiers soprano

Helen was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia where she began singing in church choirs at the age of 8. In the early 60s she sang with a Toronto dance band, had a 25-year hiatus from singing, and in the late 80s joined an amateur musical theatre group. She began her classical vocal studies mid-life and has performed in many amateur musicals, downtown supper clubs, and for three years at Roy Thompson Hall during the Seniors’ Jubilee. She was a first place winner in the Senior Star Idol Competition in the GTA. She is a regular soloist for various Toronto churches, weddings and special occasions. She has been a chorister and soloist with the Shevchenko Musical Ensemble since 2000 and appears regularly as soloiss with the Toronto Mandolin Orchestra.
